Disappointing news from HRM Planning this week…
The Developer has not complied with HRM Planning’s letter outlining the 6 storey building goal Sam set out on December 7th. Instead, the Developer states he is coming back with an 8 storey proposal, and essentially the same building design. The Developer offered this solution up on Dec. 7th and that was rejected by everyone.
The distraction of the Developer pretending to plan to sell the Funeral Home Site as a 200 unit Hotel with unlimited height is not a credible threat.
We will work to pressure HRM Planning to not recommend this proposal because it is not compatible with the surrounding area, including exceeding the R-4 density limits and based on existing Dartmouth Land Use Bylaws (LUB).
Spot Re-zoning R-1 and R-2 into R-4 area is a very bad idea without wider studies by HRM on impacts to local neighbourhoods. . This is a bad density precedent for our neighbourhood. The height, bulk and scale remain essentially unchanged.
WHAT A WASTED OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE – the community, the Developer, HRM Planning and the Community Council!!!
